U.S. Representative Terri Sewell, D-Alabama, is accepting applications for Spring 2027 internships in her Washington, D.C., and district offices. College students and recent graduates interested in government and public service can apply to spend the semester working with Sewell’s staff on legislative, communications and administrative tasks.

“My internship program is an important part of my commitment to cultivating the next generation of leaders and changemakers,” Sewell said. “As a former congressional intern myself, I know firsthand how these experiences can open doors, build confidence, and inspire a lifelong commitment to public service. I am proud to offer students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Congress, learn from my dedicated team, and help make a difference for the people of Alabama’s 7th Congressional District. I encourage all college students and recent graduates with an interest in government and public service to apply!”

Interns can research legislation, draft letters, compile media clips, answer constituent calls and attend legislative hearings, briefings and seminars.

Students with connections to Alabama who will complete their senior year in an undergraduate program by May 2027 are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates should be proactive, professional and dependable, with an interest in federal policy and the legislative process. They should also have strong written and oral communication skills, the ability to multitask, attention to detail and a willingness to learn.

Sewell’s office is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate in hiring based on race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, national origin, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, genetic information, age, military service or other non-merit factors. Black, Indigenous and other people of color, along with members of underrepresented communities, are encouraged to apply.

The application deadline is 9 a.m. CST Monday, November 30. For more information, including how to apply, visit Sewell’s internship opportunities page.
