Free elections require trust
Free elections require secure ballots, meaningful access, transparent rules and citizens willing to respect the lawful decision of the voters.

A free and fair election is not defined by whether our side wins. It is defined by whether the voters decide.
Election security and access to the ballot are often treated as opposing ideas. They are not. A healthy democracy requires both.
In this episode of "This Matters," Bill Britt examines why every eligible citizen should have a reasonable opportunity to vote, every lawful ballot should be protected and every lawful vote should be counted.
Candidates have the right to challenge legitimate problems through audits, recounts and the courts. But losing is not proof of fraud, and disappointment is not evidence that an election was stolen.
